PUBG Mobile M416 Guide — Attachments, Recoil Control & Positioning

The M416 is the most stable assault rifle in PUBG Mobile. Master its attachment priorities, recoil control techniques (including the crouch-firing trick that halves recoil), and mid-range positioning to dominate every match.

Attachment Priority & Full Build

The M416 is the only AR in PUBG Mobile that accepts every attachment slot. A fully kitted M416 has the easiest recoil of any assault rifle in the game. Understanding which attachments to prioritize when looting is critical for early-game fights.

Attachment Priority (Loot Order)

  1. 1.Compensator (Muzzle) — Reduces vertical and horizontal recoil by ~25%. This is the single most impactful attachment. Always take compensator over suppressor for fighting.
  2. 2.Vertical Foregrip (Grip) — Reduces vertical recoil. Best grip for spray control at all ranges. Angled Foregrip is an alternative if you need faster ADS time.
  3. 3.Extended Quickdraw Mag (Magazine) — 40 rounds instead of 30, and faster reload. In squad fights, 30 rounds is often not enough to down and finish an enemy.
  4. 4.Tactical Stock (Stock) — Reduces recoil and sway when ADS. The M416 is the only AR that takes a tactical stock, giving it an exclusive advantage.
  5. 5.Any Scope (Sight) — Red dot for close range, 3x for mid range, 6x (set to 3x) for long range sprays.

A naked M416 is mediocre. A fully kitted M416 is the best weapon in the game. If you find a compensator and vertical grip, the M416 immediately becomes your primary weapon over any other AR.

Recoil Control Techniques

The M416 has predictable vertical recoil with slight horizontal drift. Controlling it requires consistent downward pull on your joystick/screen, and there is one technique that most players do not know about.

The Crouch-Firing Secret

Crouching while firing the M416 halves its recoil. This is not a minor improvement — it is a 50% reduction. In mid-range fights (30-80 meters), always crouch before spraying. The accuracy difference is massive. Pro players in the Chinese meta crouch-fire as a default for all mid-range engagements.

Spray Control by Range

  • Close range (0-20m): Full auto spray, no recoil control needed with a kitted M416. Just aim center mass and hold fire.
  • Mid range (20-60m): Crouch, pull down steadily on your aim. The recoil is almost entirely vertical. With compensator + vertical grip, a 15-round spray stays on target.
  • Long range (60-100m): Tap fire or 3-5 round bursts. Full auto beyond 60m wastes ammo and is inaccurate even with full attachments.
  • Beyond 100m: With the Alpha7 patch, AR damage drops 10-15% beyond 100m. Switch to a DMR or sniper at this range.

Positioning & Combat Strategy

The M416 is a mid-range specialist. Your positioning should maximize engagements in the 20-60 meter sweet spot where the M416 outperforms every other weapon class.

  • Always fight from behind cover — peek, spray, return to cover. Never stand in the open for extended sprays.
  • Compound rooftops are your best friend. Elevation + cover + mid-range distance = ideal M416 territory.
  • In open fields, use vehicles as mobile cover. Drive to a position, exit, crouch behind the vehicle, and spray.
  • When pushing a building, switch to a shotgun or SMG. The M416 ADS time is too slow for close-range building fights.
  • In the final circles, carry both M416 (mid-range) and a close-range weapon. Circles force close engagements where SMGs and shotguns dominate.

M416 vs DMR After Alpha7 Patch

The Alpha7 meta patch nerfed AR long-range damage by 10-15% beyond 100m and reduced DMR recoil by 60%. This means the M416 is no longer viable for long-range sprays. Pair your M416 with a DMR (Mini14, SKS, or SLR) for engagements beyond 100 meters. The M416 handles 0-100m, the DMR handles 100m+.
